01

Start with the payments the business needs

Describe who will pay the company, for which goods or services, and whom the company must pay in return. Separate company payments from the owner’s personal banking. A clear account of these flows gives an institution a basis for considering the request.

Identify the customers, suppliers, staff payments and currencies involved, together with the locations of counterparties and management. Distinguish existing activity from the business you intend to build. The institution determines which services it can offer and whether it can accept the company.

  • Which incoming and outgoing payments support the actual activity?
  • Who are the customers and counterparties?
  • Which needs belong to the company rather than the owner personally?
02

Assess fit and prepare for the institution’s decision

Compare the stated services of appropriately authorized providers with the company’s actual needs. Ask each institution what it can consider. Another business’s account or an intermediary’s introduction does not establish that your ownership, activity or international presence will be accepted.

If the business cannot yet explain its payment needs, revisit the sequence of the wider plan. Testing demand through the existing company, where permitted and professionally assessed, may be an alternative. Examine banking alongside the structure rather than leaving it as an assumed final step.

  • Which services does the provider actually offer for the planned use?
  • What information does the institution itself request?
  • Would the business plan still work if the preferred provider does not accept it?
03

Prepare accurate information and confirm the documents required

Set out the activity, ownership, actual management, customers and commercial reason for the company. Clearly distinguish what exists from what is planned. Contracts, trading records and other material can support the explanation, while the institution specifies the documents and verification it requires.

The website, company description, contracts and explanation of payments should tell the same accurate story. Investigate inconsistencies before submitting the information. Confirm the institution’s secure channel for sensitive documents instead of circulating identity and financial material among unrelated intermediaries.

  • Can the activity, owners and decision-makers be explained consistently?
  • What evidence exists, and what remains an assumption?
  • Who is requesting sensitive material, and through which appropriate channel?
04

Prepare banking before other commitments depend on it

Illustrative scenario, not a client case: an owner plans a company for international service contracts and expects an account to follow registration. Customers are in several countries, the delivery team is remote and the owner will relocate later. The bank needs an accurate explanation of how those arrangements will work.

Clarify the operating and payment model, discuss requirements with suitable institutions and assign responsibility for the supporting information. Do not promise payment arrangements to clients or suppliers before they are confirmed. If the preferred arrangement is unavailable, reconsider the plan and its alternatives.

  • Which commitments depend on banking being available?
  • Who prepares and checks the factual information?
  • Who will keep the institution informed of relevant changes under its requirements?
05

Know what preparation can—and cannot—settle

Check the activity, owners, management, payment flows and supporting evidence. Assign someone to prepare and maintain the information, and consider an alternative if the preferred arrangement is unavailable. A complete file supports assessment; the account decision remains with the institution.

  • Is the payment model ready to explain to an institution?
  • Which decision belongs to the bank rather than an intermediary?
  • What part of the business plan needs examination before an application?

Banking needs an accurate explanation of the business and a decision from the institution. Examine both before committing to a structure that depends on them.
